Question 1

How do I check where my Thai train is right now?

Accepted Answer

Type the train number (e.g. 109 — it is printed on your ticket) or a station name into the search box on the live map, or open /en/train/<number> directly. You will see the last station it reported, the next station, the estimated arrival time and how many minutes late it is. Waiting at a station? Open that station's page to see the trains on their way.

Question 2

Where does the data come from?

Accepted Answer

From the State Railway of Thailand's (SRT) TTS-TrainView tracking system, which records when each train arrives at, departs from or passes each station. This site uses a single connection and caches the data for everyone, so it adds no extra load to SRT's systems.

Question 3

How often is it updated?

Accepted Answer

Live positions and delays come from SRT's live running board and change as each station reports a train arriving, departing or passing — if a station has not reported yet, that train's data does not change either. (The server takes in reports as soon as SRT sends them and re-fetches the board regularly; the map refreshes every 15 seconds.) Per-train timetables and station boards are sometimes SRT's own and sometimes a fallback marked ≈ when SRT's system does not respond. Every page shows its last update time in Bangkok time.

Question 4

How accurate are the train positions?

Accepted Answer

They are not GPS. SRT reports station by station; between stations this site estimates the position along the track from the actual departure time and the expected arrival at the next station, so it can be off — for example while a train waits to pass another on single track. The position is corrected as soon as the next station reports.

Question 5

What do the marker colours mean?

Accepted Answer

Green = on time (up to 5 minutes late) · Yellow/orange = up to 20 minutes late · Red = more than 20 minutes late · Grey = stopped, or waiting to depart from its origin.

Question 6

Which time zone are the times in?

Accepted Answer

All times are Thailand time (Asia/Bangkok, UTC+7) — the same as on station boards and SRT tickets.

Question 7

Is this the official State Railway of Thailand website?

Accepted Answer

No. Rotfai Radar ("rot fai" means "train" in Thai) is an unofficial personal project made for rail fans, not affiliated with SRT. Data may be inaccurate — always check with SRT (hotline 1690) before you travel. Tickets are sold by SRT at stations and through its official channels, not on this site.
