Frequently asked questions
- How do I check where my Thai train is right now?
- Type the train number (e.g. 109 — it is printed on your ticket) or a station name into the search box on the live map, or open /en/train/<number> directly. You will see the last station it reported, the next station, the estimated arrival time and how many minutes late it is. Waiting at a station? Open that station's page to see the trains on their way.
- Where does the data come from?
- From the State Railway of Thailand's (SRT) TTS-TrainView tracking system, which records when each train arrives at, departs from or passes each station. This site uses a single connection and caches the data for everyone, so it adds no extra load to SRT's systems.
- How often is it updated?
- The server receives reports as soon as stations log them and re-fetches the full running board every 30 seconds if nothing new arrives. The map refreshes every 15 seconds and is at most about a minute behind SRT. Every page shows its last update time in Bangkok time.
- How accurate are the train positions?
- They are not GPS. SRT reports station by station; between stations this site estimates the position along the track from the actual departure time and the expected arrival at the next station, so it can be off — for example while a train waits to pass another on single track. The position is corrected as soon as the next station reports.
- What do the marker colours mean?
- Green = on time (up to 5 minutes late) · Yellow/orange = up to 20 minutes late · Red = more than 20 minutes late · Grey = stopped, or waiting to depart from its origin.
- Which time zone are the times in?
- All times are Thailand time (Asia/Bangkok, UTC+7) — the same as on station boards and SRT tickets.
- Is this the official State Railway of Thailand website?
- No. Rotfai Radar ("rot fai" means "train" in Thai) is an unofficial, non-profit personal project, not affiliated with SRT. Data may be inaccurate — always check with SRT (hotline 1690) before you travel. Tickets are sold by SRT at stations and through its official channels, not on this site.
